นิทานเรื่อง ดาวลูกไก่ (The Chick Stars)

Long ago a poor old man and his wife live in a house near the forest. One day a monk came to stay nearby.  The old man and his wife wanted to make a merit.

"How can we make a merit?  We have nothing to offer the monk,"  said old man.
"Look! we have a hen. That is for the curry tomorrow,"  said the wife.
"That's a good idea,"  the old man agreed.

The hen heard the old man and his wife talking. So she said to her seven chicks.
"I'm going to die very soon."
"no, no, no,"  cried the chicks.
"Yes, children,"  said the hen.
"Now listen to me. The old man and his wife have been very good to us."
"Now I must repay them."
"I want you to be good children when I'm gone. Don't fight and peck with each other."

The old man lit a fire and came for the hen. When the seven chicks saw that their mother  was dead, they cried.
"Mother, we can't live without you"  And then they threw themselves into the fire.

The seven chicks's hearts were full of great love. They then were reborn as stars. The chick stars can be seen in the night sky even now.

The Chick Stars (ดาวลูกไก่)

นานมาแล้วมีชายชราคนหนึ่งอาศัยอยู่ในบ้านใกล้ๆ ป่ากับภรรยาของเขา  วันหนึ่งมีพระรูปหนึ่งธุดงผ่านมาอยู่บริเวณนั้น 

The old man and his wife wanted to make a merit.
"How can we make a merit?  We have nothing to offer the monk,"  said old man.
ชายแก่และภรรยาต้องการทำบุญ เขาเอ๋ยกับภรรยาว่า 
"เราจะทำบุญได้ยังไงกัน พวกเราไม่มีอะไรไปถวายพระท่านเลย"

"Look! we have a hen. That is for the curry tomorrow,"  said the wife.
"That's a good idea,"  the old man agreed.
"ดูนั่นสิ! เรามีแม่ไก่อยู่น่ะ และเราจะเอามันไปแกงถวายพระวันพรุ่งนี้"  ภรรยาของเขากล่าว
"เป็นความคิดที่ดี"  ชายแก่เห็นด้วยกับความคิดของภรรยาตนเอง

The hen heard the old man and his wife talking. So she said to her seven chicks.
"I'm going to die very soon."
"no, no, no,"  cried the chicks.
"Yes, children,"  said the hen.
แม่ไก่ได้ยินสิ่งที่สองสามีภรรยาคุยกัน  มันจึงบอกกับลูกๆ ทั้งเจ็ดตัวของมันว่า "แม่กำลังจะตายในไม่ช้า"
"ไม่น่ะ ไม่  ไม่"  เหล่าลูกไก่ร้องไห้
"มันเป็นเรื่องจริงลูกแม่"  แม่ไก่บอกลูกๆ ของมัน

"Now listen to me. The old man and his wife have been very good to us."
"Now I must repay them."
"I want you to be good children when I'm gone. Don't fight and peck with each other."
"ตอนนี้ฟังแม่น่ะลูกรัก  ชายชราและภรรยาของเขาดีต่อพวกเรามาก"
"และตอนนี้ถึงเวลาที่แม่จะต้องตอบแทนพวกเขา"
"แม่ต้องการให้พวกลูกทุกตัวเป็นเด็กดีในยามที่แม่ไม่อยู่แล้ว  อย่าทะเลาะกันอย่าจิกตีกันน่ะลูก"

The old man lit a fire and came for the hen. When the seven chicks saw that their mother was dead, they cried.
"Mother, we can't live without you"  And then they threw themselves into the fire.
ชายชราก่อไฟและเดินมายังแม่ไก่
เมื่อลูกไก่ทั้งเจ็ดตัวเห็นแม่ของพวกมันตาย พวกมันได้แต่ร้องไห้เสียใจ 
"แม่จ๋า, ไม่มีแม่แล้วพวกเราจะอยู่กันได้อย่างไรกัน"  จากนั้นพวกมันทั้งเจ็ดก็พุ่งตัวเข้ากองไฟ

The seven chicks's hearts were full of great love. They then were reborn as stars. The chick stars can be seen in the night sky even now.
หัวใจของลูกไก่ทั้งเจ็ดตัวเปี่ยมล้นไปด้วยความรักที่มีต่อแม่ของมัน  หลังจากนั้นพวกมันได้ไปเกิดเป็นดวงดาวนั่นคือ ดาวลูกไก่  กลุ่มดาวลูกไก่อยู่บนท้องฟ้าสามารถมองเห็นได้ในยามค่ำคืนมาจนถึงปัจจุบัน
