The vixen and the lioness

One morning when a vixen was taking her babies out of the lair, she saw a lioness and her cub. "Why do you have only one child, dear dame?" asked the vixen. "Look at my healthy and numerous children here, and imagine, if you are able, how a proud mother should feel." The lioness said calmly, "Yes, just look at that beautiful collection. What are they? Foxes! I've only one, but remember, that one is a lion."

The lioness said calmly, "Yes, just look at that beautiful collection. What are they? Foxes! I've only one, but remember, that one is a lion."

(The Lion and The Hare)

The Lion and The Hare

There was a lion that woke up in one evening feeling hungry. He went to look for food in the jungle. He was so hungry that he wanted to catch anything he found. Suddenly, he saw a hare running about. The lion ran after the hare. Soon he caught that little hare. As he was going to eat the hare, he saw a deer. He because greedy. He thought he should eat the big deer instead of the hare. So he left the hare and turned to chase the deer. The deer ran as fast as he could for fear of the lion. The deer ran very fast that the lion could not catch him.

Finally he stopped running because he was too tired. He said to himself, "I had better go back to eat the hare." He hurried back to the hare. But when he was at the place, the hare had gone. The lion was so sorry. He was greedy and now he had nothing to eat even a little hare.

(The Lion and The Hare)

He said to himself, "I had better go back to eat the hare."

He hurried back to the hare. But when he was at the place, the hare had gone. The lion was so sorry. He was greedy and now he had nothing to eat even a little hare.

(The Fox without a Tail)

The Fox without a Tail
It happened that a Fox caught its tail in a trap, and in struggling to release himself lost all of it but the stump. At first he was ashamed to show himself among his fellow foxes. But at last he determined to put a bolder face upon his misfortune, and summoned all the foxes to a general meeting to consider a proposal which he had to place before them.

When they had assembled together the Fox proposed that they should all do away with their tails. He pointed out how inconvenient a tail was when they were pursued by their enemies, the dogs; how much it was in the way when they desired to sit down and hold a friendly conversation with one another. He failed to see any advantage in carrying about such a useless encumbrance. “That is all very well,” said one of the older foxes; “but I do not think you would have recommended us to dispense with our chief ornament if you had not happened to lose it yourself.”

(The Fox and His Shadow )

The Fox and His Shadow

In the evening of certain day when the crimson sun is setting, a fox was walking along the road, facing back from the setting sun . The fox was surprised with looking at his shadow, suddenly. Deep black and long and big shadow are made on the road lighted by the setting sun, and walked together with the fox. “Wow! It is a very big shadow!”

“As my shadow is so large, it means that I am large similarly.” The fox boasted of himself and began to walk. Then, a big tiger came from other side, and stepped upon the shadow of a fox. A fox compares the size of his big shadow and a tiger, and said. “I see now a tiger is much smaller than I. It was no need that I have feared until now.”

The fox said arrogantly. “Hey that little tiger! kneel down there greeting until I pass now.” “Gao! this thin fox, Although I thought I would save you looking no delicious even if eating, I don’t pardon you any longer!” The fox has been eaten by the tiger. It was the last of the fox who regarded the shadow as himself.

Deep black and long and big shadow is made on the road lighted by the setting sun, and walked together with the fox.

“Hey! that little tiger! kneel down there greeting until I pass now.” “Gao! this thin fox, Although I thought I would save you looking no delicious even if eating, I don’t pardon you any longer!” The fox has been eaten by the tiger. It was the last of the fox who regarded the shadow as himself.

(The Young Thief and His Mother)

The Young Thief and His Mother

A young Man had been caught in a daring act of theft and had been condemned to be executed for it. He expressed his desire to see his Mother, and to speak with her before he was led to execution, and of course this was granted. When his Mother came to him he said: "I want to whisper to you," and when she brought her ear near him, he nearly bit it off. All the bystanders were horrified, and asked him what he could mean by such brutal and inhuman conduct. "It is to punish her," he said. "When I was young I began with stealing little things, and brought them home to Mother. Instead of rebuking and punishing me, she laughed and said: "It will not be noticed." It is because of her that I am here today." "He is right, woman," said the Priest; "the Lord hath said:

"Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old he will not depart therefrom."
