นิทานอีสปเรื่อง ชายหัวล้านกับแมลงวัน

There was once a Bald Man who sat down after work on a hot summer’s day. A Fly came up and kept buzzing about his bald, and stinging him from time to time.

The Man aimed a blow at his little enemy, but back palm came on his head instead; again the Fly tormented him, but this time the Man was wiser and said:”You will only injure yourself if you take notice of despicable enemies” 

                       “Revenge will hurt the avenger”

มีชายหัวล้านคนหนึ่งกำลังนั่งพักหลังจากทำงานเสร็จในวันที่มีอากาศร้อน

A Fly came up and kept buzzing about his bald, and stinging him from time to time.

แมลงวันตัวหนึ่งบินมาเกาะที่ศรีษะของเขาอย่างเงียบเชียบ และกัดเขาเป็นครั้งคราว

ชายหัวล้านปัดศัตรูตัวน้อยของเขา แต่ฝ่ามือกลับตบลงที่ศรีษะของเขาแทน และแมลงวันก็รบกวนสร้างความรำคาญให้ชายผู้นี้อีก แต่ครั้งนี้ชายหัวล้านเป็นผู้กระทำบ้างพูดขึ้นว่า “เจ้าจะทำร้ายตัวเจ้าเองหากเจ้าพบเจอศัตรูที่เลวทราม” 

นิทานเรื่องนี้สอนให้รู้ว่า

“Revenge will hurt the avenger”

“การแก้แค้นจะทำร้ายผู้แก้แค้น”
