Curious Monkey and The Carpenter (ลิงสอดรู้กับช่างไม้)
Once a carpenter was working hard to divide a log into two parts. He was sawing the wood from morning to noon, but was able to cut only half-way through. He was hungry. So he pushed a wedge into the split and went for lunch.
กาลครั้งหนึ่ง ช่างไม้คนหนึ่งกำลังทำงานหนักเพื่อแยกท่อนไม้ออกเป็นสองส่วน เขาเลื่อยไม้ตั้งแต่เช้าจนถึงเที่ยงแต่ก็สามารถผ่าไม้ได้เพียงครึ่งเดียวเท่านั้น ช่างไม้รู้สึกหิว เขาจึงใช้ลิ่มตอกลงไปตรงรอยแยก และไปทานมื้อเที่ยง
A monkey was watching the carpenter. He became curious of the wedge. He climbed down from the tree and went unto the log. He tried to pull the wedge. It did not yield.
ลิงตัวหนึ่งที่กำลังมองดูช่างไม้เกิดความอยากรู้เกี่ยวกับลิ่มที่มันเห็น มันจึงปีนลงมาจากต้นไม้ และมุ่งตรงไปยังท่อนไม้ มันพยายามดึงลิ่มออกแต่ก็ไม่ขยับ
He sat on the log with legs on each side. The tail was dangling down through the split. He tried again and again. All of a sudden, the wedge came out. The log stuck together with a snap cutting off the dancing tail with it.
เจ้าลิงจึงขึ้นไปนั่งบนขอบของท่อนไม้ หางของมันห้อยลงไปในร่องของรอยไม้ที่แยก ลิงพยายามครั้งแล้วครั้งเล่าเพื่อดึงลิ่ม ทันใดนั้นลิ่มหลุดออกมา ท่อนไม้ที่ถูกแยกออกประกบติดกันเสียงดังตัดหางลิงขาดออกมา
